ECO3-operational-BI-ownership

Purpose of This Repository

This repository documents Phase 2 of my journey at ECO3, where I moved from understanding the legacy environment to actively owning, stabilizing, and operating business-critical reporting.

The focus of this phase was not transformation yet, it was trust, continuity, and reliability.

Before any future-state architecture could be built, the business needed:

This repository captures how that ownership was established.

All examples are conceptual and use dummy representations to respect confidentiality.

Transition From Analysis to Ownership

After completing the legacy environment analysis (Repo ECO3-legacy-reporting-environment-analysis ), it became clear that:

At this stage, I stepped into full operational ownership of reporting.

Power BI Ownership – Scope & Responsibility

I took responsibility for existing, partially broken, or unmaintained Power BI assets.

Fixing Broken Reports & Models

Many reports suffered from:

My work included:

Power Query & M Language Work

A large part of stabilization involved deep Power Query work:

This reduced hidden errors and improved long-term maintainability.

Security, Access & Governance

I designed and implemented:

This ensured:

When Fixing Was Not Enough – Rebuilding Reports

In several cases, reconciliation was extremely complex and data trust was low.

For such reports, I made a deliberate decision to:

This approach prioritized:

Stakeholder Collaboration & Feedback Loops

Operational ownership required close collaboration with stakeholders.

I worked directly with:

Feedback loops were used to:

Operational Impact

As a result of this phase:

This phase created a stable operational baseline, making future transformation possible.

How This Repository Fits in the Bigger Journey

This repository represents Phase 2 of the broader analytics journey:

Without this stabilization phase, large-scale transformation would not have been feasible.

Suggested Diagrams to Add (Optional – Later)

  1. Power BI Ownership Model
    • Datasets → Reports → Consumers
  2. Stabilization Lifecycle
    • Detect → Diagnose → Fix → Validate → Release
  3. Security & Access Flow
    • Users → Roles → Datasets → Reports

All visuals should remain conceptual.
